Yoshinkan Aikido Ryu
Location: Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, Japan
Tsuneo Ando (8th dan) is the Chief Instructor at Ryu Headquarters Dojo and head of Yoshinkan Aikido Ryu.
Ando Sensei has dedicated himself to the study of aikido for over 4o years; 14 of those as an apprentice to Shioda Gozo (1915-1944), the founder of Yoshinkan Aikido, and 37 as a full-time professional instructor. He remains devoted to studying and developing his own technique while also training his senior apprentices to be martial artists and instructors of the highest level.
Considered one of the top aikido practitioners in the world, he is highly sought after as a teacher both for his technique, which most directly resembles Shioda Sensei`s, and for the warmth of his personality.
Our connection with Yoshinkan Aikido Ryu began in January 2017, at a 3 Masters Budo seminar organised by Hoosain Narker, Kaicho of Ashihara Karate. Harun Sensei and a number of his students had the opportunity to train with Tsuneo Ando Shihan, 8th Dan Yoshinkan Aikido, Kaicho Hoosain Narker and Kancho Kenji Nakazawa, the founder of the Japanese Art of Aiki-Sambo (a fusion between Yoshin Aikido & Sambo).
In September of 2017, Harun Sensei together with a group of 7 students spent one month doing an intensive training program with Ando Shihan in Japan. During that time, they also participated in the 62nd Annual Yoshinkan Taikai – an event where all the top masters of Yoshinkan demonstrate. 4 of his students also competed with excellent performances in the Tournament.
Karen Barkley, a student of Harun Sensei completed a full-time, 1 year training course at Yoshinkan Aikido Ryu from July 2017 to June 2018.
Harun Sensei and his group were formally accepted as an associate dojo of the RWAF – Ryu World Aikido Federation.
